In conjunction with Qing Ming, Sambodhi is organising a Pattidana on 5th April 2015, to dedicate merits to the departed ones.

Pattidana Programme
9.30 am        Buddha Puja,
Dhamma Talk by Sangha members,
Chanting/Blessing Service
Offering of necessary requisites to Sangha members,
Dedication of Merits to Departed Ones
11.30am       Lunch dana (offering of food) to the Sangha members *
(Devotees are encouraged to bring a dish, preferably vegetarian, for offering)

Patti means what you have gained and dana means giving or charity. Pattidana is sharing of merits or good deeds with others. Meritorious deeds include dana, (giving, charity, generosity), Sila (virtue, morality) and Bhavana (mental culture, meditation), Dhammadesana (teaching the Dhamma), Dhammasavana (listening to the Dhamma) etc. The acquired merits can be dedicated and transferred to the departed ones.

To help the departed ones, understanding Buddhists should perform some meritorious deeds in memory of them. Meritorious deeds  such as giving alms to others and printing Dhamma books or CDs for free distribution can be performed in the name of the departed ones. Then the doer of the meritorious deeds has to make a wish that all the merits gained be accrued to the departed ones. When those reborn  in some certain unfortunate state become aware that their relatives or friends have performed some meritorious deeds and transferred the merits to them, they rejoice over the merits. By rejoicing, feeling glad and happy in their mind, will help them relieve their suffering. When meritorious deeds are done repeatedly for the departed ones, and they rejoice repeatedly, the unhappy birth is transformed to a happy one by rejoicing and power of wholesome thoughts. It is the duty of relatives to remember their departed ones by transferring merits. This is the highest gift to them.

Note:
Members can bring their own requisites for offering OR can contribute towards the main requisite tray, the balance of the contribution will go towards the Sangha Fund. For those who wish to make the offering of requisites, please write down the names of the departed ones you wish to transfer merits on a piece of paper.
