Biodata of Visu
Visu Teoh is a Malaysian Chinese born in Penang, Malaysia, in 1953. He has been practicing meditation since 1982 and was a Buddhist monk for 17 years till he resumed the lay life in 2003. He is married to Barbara, a German national, and together they travel to lead retreats in various countries.

Visu was a journalist for 12 years (started with Straits Echo, then New Straits Times and ended up with The Star in Penang as Chief Reporter before he became a monk under the tutelage of Sayadaw U Pandita of Myanmar in 1987. He spent three years training under the guidance of Sayadaw U Pandita at the Mahasi Meditation Centre in Yangon, Myanmar and nine months at Wat Tamaoh Monastery in Lampang, Thailand under Sayadaw U Dhammananda before returning to Malaysia in 1991 where he continued his meditation practice and the study of the Buddha's teachings. Visu has also learnt from various other teachers including Sayadaw U Lakkhana, Sayadaw U Jatila, Ven Sujiva of Malaysia, Sayadaw U Thondara (deceased), Sayadaw U Wayarmeinda (deceased) and Sayadaw U Pannathami.

Visu is the author of several Dhamma books including “Curbing Anger Spreading Love,” “Drinking Tea Living Life: Applying Mindfulness in Everyday Life and Critical Times,” “Loving and Dying,” “Hello with love and other meditations,” and “Metta Meditation and Positive Attitudes.”

Visu has led retreats in Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Italy, Holland, and the Czech Republic and together with Barbara they divide their time between staying in Europe and Penang. When back in Penang they reside at Inward Path and Visu leads the weekly meditation session.

24hr Metta for Peace, Harmony and Stability


The 24hr Metta event for Buddhists to chant for peace, harmony, and stability of the World is from 24th to 25th November 2012.

Sambodhi is participating in this event and our time slot is on Sat, 24 November 2012, from 11pm to 12midnight.


We are fortunate that Rev Upananda from Sri Jayanti Buddhist Temple in Sentul will be at Sambodhi Centre this evening to prepare us for the 24hr Metta event. He will also be leading us on the 24th Nov 2012; the event day.

3-Day Meditation Retreat


Part time / walk-in yogis are welcomed to the 3-Day Meditation Retreat which is from 26th - 28th Oct 2012. Since the centre shall be occupied with this retreat, there shall be no dhamma talk this Sunday.

The Ten Meritorious Actions

Speaker's Profile
Ven Panamwela Wajirabuddhi was born in Sri Lanka in the Matara District. He was ordained as a novice monk in 1980 at the Dharmaduthashrama Vidyala, Colombo 09 under the guidance of late Venerable Dr. P. Pangnananda Nayaka Maha Thera, Venerable Wehelle Sri Attadassi Dhammapala Nayaka Maha Thera, & the late Venerable M. Sumangala Maha Thera the Principal of Dharmadutashrama Vidyala Colombo. His higher ordination took place at Malwathu Maha Vihara, Kandy, Sri Lanka in 1987. He completed his monastic education at Dharmaduthashrama College, and did his higher education at,Bhikkhu University Anuradhapura, and obtained “Thripitakavedi” degree. He stayed in Thailand nearly 10 months, at Wat Srakete. Then, in 1994, he came to United States of America, and stayed with the Cambodian community in Los Angeles. Ven. Cong Sophan Rakkitha Dhammo was the head of Wat Khemer Jothi Nano Chun Nath, under whose guidance he learned Cambodian culture and language. In 1999 Ven. P. Wajirabuddhi moved to Atlanta, Georgia and in June 2000 established the Georgia Buddhist Vihara. 

He has completed Vipassana and Jana Bhavana retreat under Ven Dr. Henepola Gunarathana Maha Thera at Bhavana Society, West Virginia USA. He received his English Diploma from Interactive college of Technology in USA. 

He conducts monthly meditation Silence retreat, weekly Vipassana Meditation, visits colleges teaching introduction to Buddhism, Mindful Session in Federal Prison once a month and conducts Annual Youth Retreat. 

Ven P Wajirabuddhi is in Malaysia for a short Dhamma tour at the kind invitation of Ven B Sri Saranankara Nayaka Maha Thera.

Free English Language Classes

We are pleased to announce that an opportunity to improve the spoken and written English shall be made available in Sambodhi Centre. Miss Jacqueline McCabe from UK whom has a powerful command of the English Language has offered her service to provide free tutoring to assist our teens in speaking and writing the English Language more effectively.

Workshops - Types of Kamma

Bro Benny is the editor of Eastern Horizon, tri-annual journal of the Young Buddhist Association of Malaysia. He is also the Editorial Consultant and contributor to the “Religions and Beliefs” volume of The Encyclopedia of Malaysia (2006). His writings have appeared in numerous journals, including Journal of the Malaysian Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society and in “Nurturing Child and Adolescent Spirituality: Perspectives from the World's Religious Traditions” (Rowman & Littlefield: Minneapolis, USA, 2006). He edited three volumes in honor of Venerable Dr K. Sri Dhammananda: “K. Sri Dhammananda: A Pictorial Retrospect (2000)”, “K. Sri Dhammananda Felicitation (2003)”, and “108 Treasures for the Heart: A Guide to Daily Living (2005).” His most recent editorial contribution is “Transforming the Mind: To Create Happiness in our Lives” (2008).

Benny holds a B.A. (honors) Education degree from Universiti Sains Malaysia and a M.P.A. degree from University of Malaya. He is currently the Executive Director of a multi-national corporation.

Mr Vijaya Samarawickrama (a.k.a. Uncle Vijaya) is an engaging and inspiring Dhamma speaker.  He graduated as a specialist in the Teaching of English as a Second Language from the Malayan Teachers' Training College in Liverpool, England and later on a B.A.(Hons) in English and Linguistics from the University of Malaya and an M.A. (Drama and Theater) from the University of Hawaii.
 Uncle Vijaya is a committee member of the Sasana Abhiwurdhi Wardhana Society and is also its former vice-president.
Uncle is also author to many Dhamma books, essays and discussions. He shares the gift of Dhamma by delivering talks and organising workshops and seminars in schools, colleges, universities and Buddhist organisations.

Taught Sunday Dhamma School in SJBA for 12 years.  Assisting Selangor Buddhist Vipassana Meditation Society in the publication of Dhamma books.

Speaker's Profile
Rev. Sumedha is a Sri Lankan monk currently residing in Sri Lanka Buddhist temple Sentul. He was ordained as a novice monk in 1993 and given higher ordination in 2003. In addition to monastic training and traditional oriental studies, he also received Bachelor’s degree from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka with major in Psychology. While in the University, he set up a monastery in Sri Lanka and was working with youth and parents as potential groups in bringing about change in people’s life. There he conducted safe-parenting awareness programs for parents and guided youth through music and literature.
Rev. Sumedha, with the blessings of Chief Reverend, arrived in Sentul Temple in October 2009. In the guiding lights of Chief Reverend, he was about to take the best turn in his monkhood life. He was offered a scholarship in HELP University College to pursue his Masters in Counselling Psychology. This event paved the way for him to set up “Embassy of Happiness”, the spiritual counselling unit in Sentul Temple. With the generous guideline from the Chief Reverend, he was able to create a Dhamma space called “Buddhist Cell Groups” where families and friends can gather around and practice the teachings.

Programme on 8th July 2012 (Sunday) includes Pindapatta, Chanting of Suttas and Dana.

Time: 8:30 am to 1pm.
Devotees are encouraged to participate in the offering of food to the monks and nuns. There are about 100 over monks and nuns who will be present at the Bodhi Park centre. Devotees are to assemble at designated assembly area by 8:00 am on Sunday morning to get ready for the Pindapatta.
Please do not bring any food for Dana as all will be prepared by the organizing committee. 


In support of this meritorious event, there will be no Dhamma talk on that Sunday ie 8th July 2012. We shall be having our weekend meditation retreat on the following week at Samadhi Vihara which is next to the Bodhi Park. As such there would not be any Dhamma talk for 15th July 2012 as well.

Hosting of Empress Wu (6th Oct 2012)
Sambodhi is embarking on a project to raise funds for our centre by hosting a theatre show produced by Dama Orchestra.
The show, Empress Wu – The Musical is on 6.10.12. (Saturday) 3.00 pm (in Mandarin it’s called ‘Wu Che Tian’).
The tickets are priced at RM 120, RM 180, RM 250 and RM 400. Proceeds from the show will go towards the maintenance of the centre and also the building fund.

Dhamma Talk - Taking the Risk to be Happy (1 July 2012)


'Taking the Risk to Be Happy' is the dhamma topic at Sambodhi Centre on 1st July 2012.

Speaker : Rev Sumedha

Rev. Sumedha is a Sri Lankan monk currently residing in Sri Lanka Buddhist temple Sentul. He was ordained as a novice monk in 1993 and given higher ordination in 2003. In addition to monastic training and traditional oriental studies, he also received Bachelor’s degree from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka with major in Psychology. While in the University, he set up a monastery in Sri Lanka and was working with youth and parents as potential groups in bringing about change in people’s life. There he conducted safe-parenting awareness programs for parents and guided youth through music and literature.
Rev. Sumedha, with the blessings of Chief Reverend, arrived in Sentul Temple in October 2009. In the guiding lights of Chief Reverend, he was about take the best turn in his monkhood life. He was offered with a scholarship in HELP University College to pursue his Masters in Counseling Psychology. This event paved the way for him to set up “Embassy of Happiness”, the spiritual counseling unit in Sentul Temple. With the generous guideline from the Chief Reverend, he was able to create a Dhamma space called “Buddhist Cell Groups” where families and friends can gather around and practice the teachings.

Bro. Charlie was the past President of the Buddhist Society in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, a former Secretary General of the Buddhist Missionary Society and former President of Bandar Utama Buddhist Society. 
A Chartered Quantity Surveyor, he also holds a LLB from the University of London and a Certificate in Legal Practice. ). 
He regularly gives Dhamma talks at universities, colleges, schools and Buddhist organisations around the Country.

Profile of Speaker

Bro Benny is the editor of Eastern Horizon, tri-annual journal of the Young Buddhist Association of Malaysia. He is also the Editorial Consultant and contributor to the “Religions and Beliefs” volume of The Encyclopedia of Malaysia (2006). His writings have appeared in numerous journals, including Journal of the Malaysian Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society and in “Nurturing Child and Adolescent Spirituality: Perspectives from the World's Religious Traditions” (Rowman & Littlefield: Minneapolis, USA, 2006). He edited three volumes in honor of Venerable Dr K. Sri Dhammananda: “K. Sri Dhammananda: A Pictorial Retrospect (2000)”, “K. Sri Dhammananda Felicitation (2003)”, and “108 Treasures for the Heart: A Guide to Daily Living (2005).” His most recent editorial contribution is “Transforming the Mind: To Create Happiness in our Lives” (2008).

Benny holds a B.A. (honors) Education degree from Universiti Sains Malaysia and a M.P.A. degree from University of Malaya. He is currently the Executive Director of a multi-national corporation.

Ven. Mandawala Pannawansa is on a short Dhamma Tour to Malaysia from 6 to 30th April at the kind invitation of Ven B Sri Saranankara Nayaka Maha Thera.



Ven. is a Meditation Master of Washington Buddhist Vihara. Ven. is a French Citizen Buddhist monk born in Sri Lanka and is fluent in English, French and Sinhala, teaches the Dhamma and Meditation in Europe and USA and also has has translated the works of His Holiness The Dalai Lama, Thich Nhat Hanh, Kahlil Gibran, Rumi, Paul Coelho, Omar Khyyam, Victor Hugo and Molièr. Ven has just completed the translation of Dr Brian Weiss's ‘Many Lives and Many Masters’ into Sinhala language in 13 days and the book will be published in Sri Lanka soon.
