The Group Meditation at Sambodhi for this coming Friday (6th December 2013) will be starting at 8pm instead of the usual time of 8.30pm.

In conjunction with our participation in the Annual 24hr Metta Chanting & Offering of Lights @ Samadhi Vihara on 28th December 2013 (11.00pm - 12.00 midnight), we shall be having the Group Metta Chanting Practice this Friday and on all Sundays.

Participants of 24hr Metta Chanting 2012 from Sambodhi

We are very pleased to announce that Setia Alam Sambodhi Buddhist Association Selangor shall be taking part again in this Annual 24hr Metta Chanting & Offering of Lights @ Samadhi Vihara on 28-29th December 2013 organised by BMSM. Our 1 hr slot for this event is on 11.00 - 12.00 midnite, 28th December 2013. We would like to invite all members and friends to join us in this non-stop chanting of Karaniya Metta Sutta.

Talk on Lumbini by Dr Basanta in Samadhi Vihara

Lumbini, in the Terai plains of Nepal is the birthplace of the Lord Buddha and is considered as one of the greatest pilgrimage sites for Buddhists. It had been declared a UNESCO heritage and the site is now being developed as a Buddhist pilgrimage centre, where the archaeological remains associated with the birth of the Lord Buddha form the central feature.

To give us an insight into what Lumbini was, is & will be, we have the privilege of having with us Dr. Basanta Bidari, retired Chief Archaeologist to share with us his work and experiences working the past 30 years at this sacred place.

A special talk not to be missed by avid Buddhists.

Visit to Old Folks Home (13 Oct 2013)

The Sunday School Children together with their parents and members of Sambodhi will be visiting the Klang and Coast Chik Sin Thong Old Folks Home, Klang on 13th October 2013. Members are most welcomed to join this outing. The children will be performing line dancing and hymn singing and there will also be Qigong healing by some Qigong members for the inmates. Donations will also be handed out to the inmates as well as to the Home. Members who wish to contribute to this noble cause or join this event can contact Sis Ngim (H/P 016-6619649).

Metta Youth Lab at Samadhi Vihara

Metta Youth Lab is an event by organized by BMSM, Shah Alam.

This activity will give youths the opportunity to associate with Bhante Mahinda and to learn more about  Metta (Loving- Kindness). There will be dhamma sharing as well as fun and practical activities especially designed by Samadhi Youth Team for teenagers. The objective of these activities is to expose youths to Metta, to share and cultivate it. 

Teenagers of 16 years old and above are welcomed to join this activity. It shall be conducted on Sunday, Sep 22nd from 2.00pm - 4.00pm.

We are fortunate that Sayadaw U Silacala would be visiting us at Sambodhi this Sunday, 23 July 2013 to conduct a Dhamma Talk. We shall have Dana after the talk. Join us at 9:30am this Sunday.

Bhante's Biodata: 
Sayadaw is a Buddhist monk from Myanmar. Bhante was ordained at the age of 20 in Mongaung Temple in Myanmar and has 43 vassa.

Sayadaw learned Insight (Vipassana) meditation from the Mahasi Meditation Cetre in Yangon.

Sayadaw first came to Malaysia at the invitation of Subang Jaya Buddhist Association in the early 90’s. 

Today Sayadaw has a Centre in Kelang town and has a good following of both Malaysian devotees and Myanmar Nationals working in Kelang area.

Wooi Kheng Choo

Sis Kheng Choo graduated from University of Malaya with M.Sc. in 1979 specializing in Plant Physiology and worked as a Plant Biotechnologist for multinational companies. She completed the Diploma in Buddhist Studies from Than Hsiang Buddhist Research Centre in 2001.

Sis Kheng Choo has taught the Sunday Dhamma School in SJBA for 12 years.  She is also assisting Selangor Buddhist Vipassana Meditation Society in the publication of Dhamma books.

Bro. Dassana has been practising Vipassana Meditation for the past 20 years. He has done many years of retreats in Burma, Thailand and Malaysia under various teachers. He had also been a monk for 17years which gave him the opportunity and time to study the theory and to do long intensive vipassana retreats.

Bhante's Biodata:
Ven. Pannyavaro is an Australian Buddhist monk who has devoted his life to the meditation aspects of the Buddha's teachings. During his meditation training he practiced under several meditation masters in Sri Lanka and Burma including Ven. Sayadaw U Janaka of Chanmyay Meditation Centre, Rangoon, who is the foremost disciple of the renowned Burmese meditation master, the late Ven. Mahāsi Sayādaw.

Ven. Pannyavaro was involved in the beginnings of a number of the very early Buddhist communities in Australia. He later received full ordination at Wat Borvornivet in Bangkok under Ven Phra Nyanasamvarva, the Sangha Raja of Thailand. During more than 30 years of training (since 1974) he has studied and practiced meditation in all of the major Theravada Buddhist countries including long periods of intensive practice of Satipaṭṭhāna-vipassanā meditation at the Mahāsi Sayādaw Centres in Myanmar. 

As a qualified meditation teacher who naturally empathizes with the concerns and needs of Western meditators, he combines his long training and life experience to bring together a practical, in-depth approach to the teaching of Vipassanā meditation. In February 2005, he founded and is the resident teacher monk at Bodhi Tree Forest Monastery and Community Retreat Centre near Lismore in Northern New South Wales, Australia.

Venerable Pannyavaro is the webmaster and founder of BuddhaNet.net, a computer information network which was established in 1993. BuddhaNet was the first Buddhist BBS (Bulletin Board System) which later evolved into Australia's first Buddhist website. This electronic Buddhist Information and Education Service on the Internet's World Wide Web is now one of the largest and most popular Buddhist website in the world with over 800,000 strikes per day. He has also established and runs the Buddhist eLibrary and the World Buddhist Directory websites.

Tirokudda Sutta

The topic for the upcoming Sunday Dhamma Talk is on Tirokudda Sutta. It would be conducted by Brother Chan Khoon San. 

Tirokudda Sutta is one of the Buddhist scriptures that covers the realm of spirits and how we can effectively help our friends and relatives who are born in the less fortunate planes through the transfer of merits.

As usual, Puja would begin at 9:30am on 31 March 2013.

The Friday Group Meditation is from 8:30pm to 10:00pm this Friday, 29 April, 2013.

Activities of the Week

Sis Gin would be at the Centre on Friday, 8th March 2013 for a Q & A session for anyone who needs clarification about their meditation  practice.

Our first Sutta Class is about "Introduction to Pali Canon"  and will be held on the next day, 9th March 2013 from 3 to 5pm.

Sambodhi's third Annual General Meeting would be held on 10 March 2013 at 9:30am.
