Biodata of Ven Pannyavaro:
Venerable Pannyavaro is an Australian Buddhist monk who has devoted his life to the meditational aspects of the Buddha's teachings. During his meditation training he practiced under several meditation masters in Sri Lanka and Burma including Venerable Sayadaw U Janaka of Chanmyay Meditation Centre, Rangoon, who is the foremost disciple of the renowned Burmese meditation master, the late Venerable Mahasi Sayadaw.

Pannyavaro was involved in the beginnings of a number of the very early Buddhist communities in Australia. He later received full ordination at Wat Borvornivet in Bangkok under Venerable Phra Nyanasamvarva, the Sangha Raja of Thailand.
For more than thirty years, he has from time to time studied and practiced meditation in most of the major Theravada Buddhist countries, including long periods of intensive practise of Satipatthana-Vipassana meditation at the Mahasi Sayadaw centres in Burma.
As a Western meditation teacher, Ven. Pannyavaro naturally empathizes with the concerns and needs of meditators in their own culture. His long training and life experience combine to bring a practical in-depth approach to the teaching of insight (vipassana) meditation in contemporary life.
Pannyavaro is the resident teacher, founder, and abbot of Bodhi Tree Forest Monastery and Community Retreat Centre in Northern New South Wales, Australia. He also gives retreats and teachings from time to time in Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.

The Perfect Lay Buddhist

There is a special Dhamma Talk by Bhante Kumara on Tuesday 14 Jan 2014 from 8:30pm to 10:00pm at Sambodhi Centre. Join us to learn more about being "The Perfect Lay Buddhist".

Āyasmā Kumāra Bhikkhu (1972- ; lay name: Liew Chin Leag, 刘振立) was ordained a Buddhist monk in 1999 at the age of 27 by Sayadaw U Revata at Subang Jaya Buddhist Association. Currently, he resides in Sāsanārakkha Buddhist Sanctuary (www.sasanarakkha.org), Taiping, where he learns from Bhaddanta Aggacitta Mahāthera and acts as his personal assistant.
He graduated with a bachelor degree in education (Teaching English as a Second Language) from the University of Malaya. It was during his studies there that he became enthusiastic about the Buddha’s teachings and decided that he wanted to live this life as a monk. Since then, with his training in education, he has been sharing the Dhamma in various ways and in several languages (mainly English, Mandarin and Hokkien) with Buddhists of various traditions and non-Buddhists too.
Inspired by Sayadaw U Tejaniya (www.sayadawutejaniya.org), his main meditation teacher, he is interested in cultivating wisdom that removes the causes of suffering. He is also influenced by Āyasmā Aggacitta to be open to Dhamma teachings beyond orthodoxy and tradition, so long as they work towards the ending of suffering. Having found his way, he is happy to help others do so too.
