Ajahn Cagino, a Buddhist monk who graduated from the
Malaysian Institute of Art, was a professional photographer before he was
ordained as a monk. While residing in a cave in Northern Thailand, he noticed
the destitute conditions of the minority ethnic group in the Mae Hong Song
Province. Ajahn Cagino then founded the Dhammagiri Foundation to help these
people. In the effort to raise funds for the foundation, Ajahn Cagino utilized
his skills as a professional photographer to present a beautiful kaleidoscope
of life depicted in wondrous pictures. Last year, SASBAS managed to raise
RM30,000 for the Dhammagiri Foundation from the sales of calendars using some
of the pictures featured in his photography exhibitions.
Pindapata is a Buddhist tradition where a monk walks
with an alms bowl to receive food offerings. Do note that money is NOT
accepted.
